to everyone who made six windows presents a hero of our time possible. we sold out the last four shows of our eight show run, and we were absolutely blown away by the positive responses we got from audiences--while we always knew we were making something special for ourselves, we didn't foresee how deeply it would resonate with peers and strangers alike.
in that light, we're currently trying to determine whether or not the show will have life beyond this first initial run at medicine show. stay tuned for more info.
thanks again, from the bottom of our hearts,
calliope theatre company
the oldest and wisest of the greek muses, calliope was associated with eloquence and epic poetry, and was said to have inspired homer’s iliad and odyssey. when mispronounced, her name refers instead to a circus instrument that produces sound by sending steam through large whistles. as it is impossible to control the pitch or volume, the thing is unyieldingly loud and out of tune. we hope our work finds the middle point between these two extremes, where the poetic meets the profane, where the refined meets the raw, where words become noise but the noise is music.
founded in 2011, calliope creates poetry- and literature-inspired narrative experiences, often organically through long-form improvisation, which aim to question and subvert theatrical forms, genres, structures, and other assumptions. we aim to create a place to play that is uniquely our own—one of truth, mystery, and epic exploration.
